Churches In the early years, churches served as the foundation for life on the Grape Vine prairie. Usually meeting in homes, horseback circuit-riding preachers would visit the settlers holding worship services and prayer meetings. Not only did the churches support life in the community, they also built schools to help educate the children.
And not much has changed; the missio n continues today. Churches embrace our community and children from the very start of life. Most offer mothers-day out programs, pre-school classes, summer Vacation Bible Schools, musical concerts, and many opportunities for community service.
Today, there are more than 30 churches in Grapevine that continue to unite a faith-based community, praying for each other, and promoting peace and love with benevolent hearts. |

| "Journey of Hope" Seminar Helps Deal with Cancer |
|
Almost everyone knows someone who has been touched by cancer - a family member, friend, coworker, neighbor... maybe even yourself. We often don't know that much about cancer itself, or what treatment entails or how to support a person mentally/emotionally, spiritually and physically as the patient journeys along through diagnosis, treatment and beyond. Ministry to cancer patients and their families is critical to their health, well being, support and recovery.
The Pastoral Care department of Cancer Treatment Centers of America® will be offering a seminar called Our Journey of Hope to teach us how to best minister to those affected by cancer. This eight-hour session will be on Saturday, March 5, from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM in the Family Life Center of First United Methodist Church in Grapevine. The cost is $20. Please register by Friday, February 4, by contacting Katherine Hunter at First Methodist Church Grapevine at katherineh@fumcg.org or 817-481-2559 x130.
Some of the topics covered in the training include:
The importance of faith to health What cancer is ... and isn't Why a whole-person philosophy of care is important Special spiritual, emotional and physical needs of cancer patients What to say, what not to say Prayer and the cancer patient Dos and don'ts of hospital visitation Creative ways to care for cancer patients and family members Prevention ideas Helpful Scripture First United Methodist Church of Grapevine is located at 422 Church Street in Grapevine. | First Baptist Church Plans Relocation |
|
First Baptist Church of Grapevine was founded in 1869 with 18 members and has occupied the property at 301 E. Texas Street since 1905. The church added facilities as its congregation grew, now occupying about 7 acres. With Sunday attendance topping 1,100, the church has outgrown its facilities, per church leaders. The church has received a permit to build a campus on 29 acres at 2301 William D. Tate Ave., with a move expected by early 2011. The new campus will have a 740-seat worship center and facilities totaling more than 81,000 square feet, with room to grow.
As a result of this move, a prime property in the heart of Grapevine's historic district may be going onto the market and city officials are considering how they would like the site redeveloped. Appraisers have valued the property between $14.3 and $15 million.

| Grapevine Methodist Churches Merge |
|
First United Methodist Church and Heritage United Methodist Church, both in Grapevine, have merged into one congregation under the banner of First United Methodist Church Grapevine.
Originally known as Minter's Chapel, Heritage United Methodist Church was formed in 1854 by Rev. Green Minter and is thought to be the first Methodist-roots congregation in Tarrant County. Minter's Chapel relocated to its present location (4344 Heritage Avenue) after its original location was absorbed by DFW airport in 1967. First United Methodist Church of Grapevine, formed in 1866 by Rev. El Nathan Hudgins, has been in ministry on the same site (at 422 Church Street) since its inception. The two congregations combined have been ministering to the Grapevine area for almost 300 years!
The joining of the two congregations became official when both churches voted to approve the merge at their respective annual Church Conference meetings in October. The congregations celebrated their new unity in a special consecration worship service and fellowship on Sunday, December 6.
The merging of these two congregations brings together two groups of people who have been committed to reaching out to Grapevine and surrounding communities. Already, the congregations have partnered to feed children through Grapevine Relief and Community Exchange's (GRACE's) summer Feed Our Kids program. They have worked together with GRACE to form a community garden. Congregation members also volunteer one Sunday each month at The Church on the Slab, a church that ministers to the homeless population of Fort Worth. These are just a few of the many ministries that First United Methodist Church Grapevine will continue to share with the Grapevine community.
The newly-merged congregation will continue to hold worship services in both locations. The Heritage Campus (4344 Heritage Avenue) worship service will continue to be held at 10:30 AM on Sunday mornings. The Downtown Campus (422 Church Street) continues its four Sunday worship services in English at 8:50, 9:00, 10:10 and 11:15 AM, and in Spanish at 11:15 AM.
