Grapevine's Senior Activities Center (SAC) provides a wide variety of fun activities and needed services for local residents 55 and above. Located near downtown at 421 Church Street, the newly renovated facility provides a welcome retreat for neighbors and friends to gather and enjoy each other's company. Membership is free!
The Center is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 am - 3:00 pm, with a hot lunch served at noon. Reservations are required 48-hours in advance for dining, and cost is $5 for folks 55-59 years of age; for those 60 and above, any contribution is welcomed.
Since there are so many things to do, places to go and classes to take — the Senior Activities Center has it's own newsletter, the Grape Affair, to keep you up to date. If you would like to receive a free subscription, please call the Center and ask to be added to the mailing list. And don't forget the Dance on the first Saturday of each month; each dance offers a theme band that plays from 7 - 9:30pm.

Whatever you have an interest in — there is an activity at the Center to compliment your passion. There are groups interested in bridge, oil painting, ceramics, learning Spanish, knitting, basic computer, T'ai Chi, exercise for those with arthritis, water aerobics, and defensive driving... just to name a few. In most cases, registration is free, but some classes do have minimal costs.
If you'd like to join a special group, gentlemen who are 55+ are invited to participate in monthly camaraderie in the Fraternal Order of the Plaid Shirts. On Friday, February 29, the men will tour the Charles D. Tandy Archaeological Museum at the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth. Please RSVP to 817-410-8130 and wear a favorite plaid shirt!

The Center also supports a Red Hat Society for women wanting to go on fun outings each month. Though the ladies are taking a break in October, a bargain shopping trip is planned to an antique mall for the November 2007 outing. Sign-up at the front desk is requested before these day trips. |

The Center offers a wide variety of educational programs and senior support services, including the "Are You Okay?" electronic re-assurance program. Administered through the Grapevine Police Department by telephone, the safety and welfare of a subscriber is checked daily. There is no charge for the service; contact the Center for more information.
The SAC also offers FREE elder care seminars for individuals who assist older parents, a spouse or relatives. Once a month, classes meet in the early evenings for an hour, followed by an optional support group. The public is invited to come and get information, assistance and support for caring for a loved one. Please call 817 410-8130 for upcoming classes.
Transportation assistance is also available and free, but reservations are required 24-hours in advance. Service is door-to-door and is also available for shopping, banking and medical needs of local seniors.
Please check the Center's Web site for more information, or the current issue of the Parks and Recreation's Department's seasonal Playbook for Senior Adult Programs. |
